distractability

In a lame attempt to combat my distractability today, I thought I would share with you how my day plays out.

Jennifer wakes up, thinks about coffee (first and foremost daily!!) then what needs to get done today. Too long of a list, going back to sleep. Finally getting up, listen to cat fussing for food, make coffee, ignoring cat, get newspaper in darn cold air, telling cat to be patient because he knows the rule is Mom gets Fed First.

Ahhhh coffee.

Feed cat, check email and facebook. Oh yeah I have to feed my Pet Society pet. Check other friends profiles, accept heart from Jane, and oh look its an hour later than I thought.

Remember that I need to put laundry in. Do I go get the laundry, no, I refill my coffee cup and check my business phone for messages. Need to email Matilda about ad rates. Respond to other emails. Yeah there are dirty dishes on my counter too. Start to wash a pot, remember I should put my blockbuster movie in the mailbox to go out. Oh yeah laundry! Walk upstairs, forget why I walked upstairs, so put warm fuzzy socks on instead.

Start on email list update for Whispers, yeah I still haven't emailed Matilda have I? Or called back Jim about the book review and other ideas. Check facebook again, just for a minute. Coffee is kicking in. Start dishwasher and attempt to wash another pot but the phone rings. Wrong number.

Okay back to email list creation, but need to find the notes I'd emailed myself about it 3 days ago. Get 3 paragraphs written, whoo hoo!! Cat is now trying to lay in the sunshine on the table right behind laptop and directly on top of rock boxes. Move boxes.

!!!!!!!!!OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH maybe the rock boxes are why I am so freakin' distracted!!!! I'll move the boxes back to my office downstairs. Phone rings. No I do not need a newspaper subscription. Better wash the bathroom sink before company comes over tonight. Oh yeah and I should figure out what to feed her. Email her about potatoes. I wonder what time my client is at tomorrow. Oh and I need to go out to buy water for mist-making before company comes tonight.

Check facebook again, water my fairy garden plants. Look at rock boxes again, still not moved, maybe I'll just cover them with a tablecloth.

Read blogs. See adorable photo and beaded journal page of my friend Shamballa. You know, maybe I will blog about how distracted I am. And look, I can write it in all one session! LOL

Thanks for reading! Back to my email creation. Really!

Okay maybe I'll check facebook just ONE more time. After I find a tablecloth.

Last Day of Tucson Gem Show!

Part of me hates to be leaving Tucson because it went so fast and at the same time seems like weeks I've been here. But it was a good week, the weather turned out fantastic this last part of the week, and now I am anticipating a quiet few days in northwest Phoenix relaxing by the pool. In spite of all the rocks, it has also been a challenging week on many levels, yes, very "different" than most years, which I will blog about later. Oh and I will post more photo's tomorrow, AND I did a few quick little VIDEO'S today! I'll post them here when ready.

To keep it short so I can go to bed, today's list:
Gold Calcite sphere's & towers
BRIGHT green/purple fluorite octohedron's
Tibetan Tektite's
Basalt sphere's
Clear & Smoky Quartz Sphere's
Mangano Calcite wands and tumbles
Angelite wands and tumbles
Peruvian Snowflake Obsidian wands (stunning!)
again, probably more I can't remember

Nighty night! Thanks so much for sharing my Tucson journey!

online shop updates

By the way, I am slowly starting to add things to my site, even while I am still in Tucson.

www.crystallinelight.com/shopnew.html has new lingams. MUCH more coming soon, but if you see something listed you want photo's or info on let me know.

Tucson Gem Show Day Six

Is it really Day Six?

Before I forget, two of my favorite finds from yesterday that I want to get in MN! I'd heard about both but no one in MN carries them YET.
www.terraflorawater.com www.aquamantra.com

On to the rocks!

We did something new today! Went to the "official" Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, which is just a 3 day show mainly for collectors and jeweler's. It's the show that most "tourists" will attend to see specimen minerals. In all my years I had never been to it (partially because of the $10 admission fee), so figured I should see this year's them of "Mineral Oddities". It was SO worth it to see such amazing pieces on display. (Check out my Picasa photo page (listed a few blogs down) for photo's.) There were stunning museum quality pieces, including pieces FROM the Smithsonian (with guards next to them). I loved the Smoky Quartz "fish" that was totally naturally formed that way. While I was at a different show later I overheard a guy talking about the "Alien Eye's" that were right next to the fish, but I missed that one (will have to research what that is too). Anyhow, it was fun to see vendors from all over the world with stunning pieces, but also offering cheap little pieces for the kids (school groups go to it tomorrow).

Attended the very quiet and less vendored Inn Suites, saw some beautiful large specimens again (THE biggest amethyst geode's I've seen YET, and I thought yesterday's were huge!), powerful smoky quartz elestials, and more. Made my annual stop to see Jeanne for stands ... she's in her 80's and has run a rock shop with her family for years, is totally sweet, then found some great Silver Sheen Obsidian sphere's, water polished selenite wands, some new Tangerine Quartz from China, and a few little gifty's for friends.

Due to the warmth and sun we cut the shopping short to head to the pool and hot tub, then a great dinner of Texas BBQ!

:)

My mom is about 5'2", so guess how tall those are.

Yes, it is really a blow up woman with a crystal singing bowl. 25 feet tall. No joke.

Sage Man!

Go to http://picasaweb.google.com/crystallinelight/TucsonGemShow2009 for MANY more photo's, and MORE are coming soon (including lots of AhhhMuse).

Tucson Gem Show Day Five

I am pooped.

We did the "freeway" shows, which consists of 5 or 6 shows that involves walking about 3 or 4 miles, so combined with all the people, looking, and not having enough water I got wiped out. BUT I got some LOVERLY things today, including Citrine Lemurians, Potential Quartz, Iolite with Sunstone, polished Blue Kyanite, Selenite sphere's (handpolished, they're irregular shaped!) and wands, large Peach Selenite sphere's, Onyx with Pyrite, Ice Quartz (aka Nirvana Quartz), Amethyst & Rainbow Fluorite tumbles, Water Quartz points, and probably a few other things I can't think of. Met some really lovely folks today, and saw familiar faces (one of whom gifted my mom with a beautiful rose quartz necklace), then had a really good dinner.

Off to bed, photo's tomorrow!

Tucson Gem Show Day Four

Ahhhh rocks!!!

I will not mention the weather in this blog today. And photo's will come later, I am working on putting them all on a Picasa page to share.

We do get the best scenic drives in on this trip, due to how far north we are staying. Amazing views of the Catalina mountains, beautiful dessert and cactus. It's always a lovely meditation to start and end my day.

Today started at the Grant Inn show, where I found some lovely Chinese quartz self-healed/elestial points and a smoky quartz elestial, as well as small quartz points for grids. That show is mostly beads and jewelry, not too many stones.

Then we hit El Charro for lunch, a favorite Tucson visit since it is the oldest running Mexican restaraunt in the US in its original location, and is wonderful food. SO love yummy shrimp taco's! We did not sit in the great outdoor patio shown, but will again some year.

Anyhow, we finally got to the Ramada, which I knew had a few vendor's I'd purchase from. MORE lingams, this time BLACK lingams! He had a ton of large one's, but nothing like I saw last year or previous years, maybe because Twintreess have snatched up all the over 5 foot pieces. Also found some really nice Ruby with Fuschite and Kyanite wands and sphere's, Selenite hearts and palm's from a sweetheart of a Moroccan dealer (met him last year), and then a few Tangerose quartz points, amethyst points, and a small box of tiny Tangerine Lemurian's. Oooh are those all fun. They're from the Tangerose guy (also a co-mine owner with Twintreess), but all his other stuff is SO expensive even though it is BEAUtiful. He had a few nice Super Seven's, including polished cab's.

Oh and saw some great amethyst cathedral's, but not as big as they are at another show I'll hopefully see tomorrow (just for you, Val!).

It was a fun day, still more to find tomorrow when I finally get back to the La Quinta to see Maya Canyon, Treess, and the other 5 hotels on that strip. It'll be a long but happy day. On Thursday we are headed to the Tucson Botanical Garden (weather permitting) and/or the Saquaro National Park (maybe Friday too).

Hey just as an aside note, did anyone else in the Twin Cities area or the midwest see any UFO's today? Just wonderin' ......... ;)

new site for all my Tucson photo's!

Tucson Gem Show Day Three

Hello again!

My day was great, the shows I went to today were quiet and/or permanent displays, so was nice to browse without many people around.

The biggest news of the day is Lingams. Ahhh Lingams! Found a vendor in a new building (temporary warehouse) that had lots of lingams including black one's. There was one black one that sang to me, it's 10" and very heavy! The others are just sweet as well, and have a little more "banding" of color than I have seen.

In the same area there were some great Chinese vendors, including a group that had first dibs to go into the area of the Yangtze river dam project to gather stalagtites and whatever minerals they could. I love all the Buddha carvings, and the yellow jade one just makes everyone smile (it was about 4 feet tall).

At one of Tucson's permanent showrooms I fell in love with the Obsidian sphere's, but the folks in back were too busy eating lunch to come tell me how much they were. I'll find more. :)
Jim Coleman mines from Arkansas always have amazing specimens, unfortunately not in my budget! (Top one was $69,000, bottom one is shown, click on it to see larger)

Beautiful Petrified Wood table and show pieces.

Raw Tiffany Stone.
Just for the record, Tucson is having the coldest worst weather of the season this week AND in many years. :P Mt Lemmon (one of the mountains here at 9000 ft) is closed, and the area where I am staying (4000 ft) is expecting 1" to 3" of snow supposedly. BUT that can totally change and I keep visualizing SUN and warmth. Maybe Phoenix by this weekend will be warmer.

Tucson Gem Show Day Two

Ahhhh Tucson!! A decent first full day, despite COLD weather (45 to 55 degrees and rainy), however I am NOT complaining because I don't need a heavy coat in this weather. The rain and clouds are amazing to watch change over the desert and the mountains, though, and the snow on the top of the mountains makes them even more mysterious. Anyhow, we were a little slow getting going today so only made it to a few shows.

Here is the scoop about what the Tucson Gem Show actually is... it is the largest in the world, and has between 35 and 40 different shows, some are just beads, some are just very high end cut stones, diamonds, jewelry, etc, and some are just rocks or a mix of rocks, beads, and "trinkets". Each show itself can have anywhere from only 20 to a few hundred vendors, most are on the mid- to higher-end count of vendors. A show is usually at a hotel or convention center or something similar, and can be each vendor in a hotel room or in either an individual tent outside or a large tent to cover every vendor. I'll post more photo's of the overall views later when its not raining. Only about 20% of the vendors (or less) are actually metaphysical in nature. It really is a sight to behold, and I love seeing people from all over the world.

So today: The first show we went to (my mom and I, my "assistant buyer") was mainly jewelry, all the way from really low end to mid-high end, as well as beads and trinkets. BUT I did find some nice tumbled stones, including NATURAL african Citrine (non-heat treated), Morganite (both new to the Crystalline Light inventory), Smoky Quartz, Obsidian, Rose Quartz, and one other I can't think of right now.

And there were two of the most amazing amethyst geode's I have ever seen. 4 tons and 8 tons, respectively. :) Stunning.

I saw 2 sweet rose quartz Ganesh statue's too.

A bead show that I previously loved had only about 30 vendors instead of the usual 150, so was disappointed. Oh but we did find a really cool bead storage system that I liked.

Then we finally got to the AhhhMuse extravaganza, but only browsed for a few minutes and said Hi to Marilyn, Tohmas, and John Kirby. (And just happened to run into the guy that first introduced me to the Amethyst BioMat 2 years ago too.) A piece of Pollucite attached itself to me, so had to come home with me. Oh and I did scope out their new Shungite pyramids and sphere's, but will look around some more this week. And was very surprised to see they only had 2 big (4 feet?) lingams, no black ones. But still good to see them, and since Tohmas pointed out a sweet Quartz with Fuschite inclusions (rare!) to me I'll have to look again tomorrow or whenever I go back. Oh and ran into Scott from Maya Canyon (my lovely jewelry guy) in the hallway, am anxious to see what new stuff they have this year.

I've heard a few people say already that this show is not as well attended and some vendors are complaining. Rocks and jewelry are not immune from the economy, but it presents great options for me at the end of the week when vendors don't want to haul their stuff home. :)

OH but the COOLEST part of today is that just as we were driving back "home" it was clearing off in the west, so we saw the biggest brightest double rainbow!! I have been totally blessed by rainbows, as yesterday as my shuttle van left Phoenix I saw pastel rainbow colored clouds in the sky, and no other clouds were as such, and another wisp of clouds a little south were just plain ol' white. Hard to explain but had me completely enamored and befuddled. So here is a rainbow blessing for YOU!

Tuscon Gem Show - Day One!

I arrived! The sun is glorious, the mountains are singing, and there are stones calling to me. After the long day (I am exhausted after getting up and out to the airport at 3:30 am ... don't ask why), I only had time and energy to get to one bead show.

Found some beautiful bright rutilated quartz beads (very much harder to find these days for a decent price), ametrine, and black tourmalinated quartz beads. Oh and a gifty for a certain beader extraordinaire friend of mine.

Then hit the grocery store for cheese, crackers, and a salad for dinner at our resort. Bed is the only agenda item left for today. Not terribly exciting, but there is MUCH more to come this week.

Oh and FYI, there is another great Tucson Gem Show blogger documenting her time here too.
